‘Happiness is an Inside Job’

by smartini on October 17, 2012

We have officially wrapped for Yoga Warrior 365–a day earlier than I anticipated so I was honored to be asked to participate in one of the other projects being filmed here at the lovely Nu Boyana studios in Sofia, Bulgaria. It is a series called ‘Harvesting Happiness from the Inside Out’ with Lisa Kamen.

I just love how each day, another opportunity presents itself for the taking. When I realized the yoga shoot would be finished a couple days sooner that I had originally thought, I was initially irked because I am so anxious and excited to get on the the next chapter waiting for me in Greece. But what the heck, I’m here, why not just see what happens and maybe there is some as-of-yet unknown place I’m supposed to be or thing I’m supposed to do.

Enter Lisa and this project.

I first met her on the day I arrived on set, she did our testimonial interviews for the infomercial that is being produced for Yoga Warrior. The questions she asked were so unexpected and resonated so deeply, that I was a bit taken aback. I was reminded again that you can find connection and purpose wherever, whenever! Where I anticipated an interview purely on what I love about yoga, I was also met with questions like ‘how do you define happiness?’ Lisa is putting together a series of twelve classes on finding true happiness and contentment. Much like how Rudy’s yoga series is designed to be accessible to EVERYONE, here too, the series is designed to bring the ‘woo-woo’ out of this conversation and really enter the mainstream with a message of finding authenticity and contentment.

When I got on set today, we were told that we had several hours less time with the camera crew than anticipated.  But what I love about challenge is the opportunity to do something we otherwise maybe did not think we could.  I never doubted for one minute that they would be able to do the nine 20-45mn interviews in 4 hours rather than 8. And when not all of the nine interviewees showed, again, I had no doubt that the mission would none-the-less be accomplished.  I watch with respect and admiration as Lisa brings wisdom into action by spinning challenge into a refined, if unexpected, end-result. The two episodes I was featured in were lesson 4 on Intuition (one of my favorite subjects!!!) and the final lesson in the series, Maintaining Happiness.  Wow – what an honor!

I’m so excited to see the end result!!  Check out www.harvestinghappiness.com

I do like the way you have framed this specific challenge and it does indeed give me some fodder for consideration. On the other hand, because of what I have witnessed, I only hope when other comments pile on that men and women keep on issue and not start on a soap box associated with the news of the day. All the same, thank you for this superb piece and while I do not necessarily concur with the idea in totality, I regard your viewpoint.

I have been thinking about this as there is a lot of disiusscon going on in the media about what makes a person happy, and indeed what is happiness. To me it is a state of mind but what makes me happy? There are all the usual trite comments about money, health, property. However I can think of many people who have these, all or in any mix, and are not happy. There is also one which is being mooted around that you can create happiness by doing a good turn for a stranger every day. In this climate I can foresee a lot of problems if a good deed is forced on someone, not everyone would accept it in the spirit it is meant. From several happenings and disiusscons I have had this week I have come to the conclusion that what makes me happy is friendship. For this and in this I am truly happy. I hope this does not make me seem smug but it is how I feel, I know it is not advice but hope other contributors may feel the same way.
